Herpes Zoster (also known as Shingles) is a viral infection that causes a painful rashes and blisters in any part of body with or without nerve involvement.

Herpes Zoster is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. Virus may lie inactive in nerve tissue after episode of chicken pox for long time and may reactivate as herpes zoster (or shingles)

While it isn't a life-threatening condition, shingles can be very painful. Vaccines can help reduce the risk of shingles, while early treatment can help shorten a shingles infection and lessen the chance of complications.

Symptoms may include:-

- Pain or burning or tingling sensation to affected body part

- Red rash with/without itching

- Fluid-filled blisters

- Fever

- Headache

- Sensitivity to light/touch

- Fatigue

Usually diagnosed based on the history and location of pain along with the rash and blisters.

Treatment with antiviral drugs, topical/ local patch/oinments with symptomatic treatment can speed healing and reduce your risk of complications.

Treatment for Herpes Zoster should be taken under supervision of a qualified doctor.
