Infertility has become common these days. In every 20 couple, 1 is suffering from infertility. So what exactly is infertility and what are the reasons for it?.

There are 2 types of infertility:

Primary infertility

Secondary infertility

It is often defined as not conceiving after 12 months of regular sexual intercourse without the use of contraceptives.

All of the steps during ovulation and fertilization need to happen correctly in order to get pregnant. Sometimes the issues that cause infertility in couples are present at birth, and sometimes they develop later in life.

Infertility causes can affect one or both partners.

In about one-third of cases, there is an issue with the male.

In about one-third of cases, there is an issue with the female.

In the remaining cases, there are issues with both the male and female, or no cause can be identified.

Causes of male infertility

These may include:

-Abnormal sperm production or function due to undescended testicles, genetic defects, health problems such as diabetes or infections.

-Problems with the delivery of sperm due to sexual problems, such as premature ejaculation; certain genetic diseases.

-Overexposure to certain environmental factors,Cigarette smoking, alcohol, marijuana or taking certain medications, such as select antibiotics, antihypertensives, anabolic steroids or others, can also affect fertility.

-Frequent exposure to heat, such as in saunas or hot tubs, can raise the core body temperature and may affect sperm production.

Causes of female infertility

-Ovulation disorders, which affect the release of eggs from the ovaries. These include hormonal disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome. Either too much thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism) or too little (hypothyroidism) can affect the menstrual cycle or cause infertility.

-Uterine or cervical abnormalities, including abnormalities with the opening of the cervix, polyps in the uterus or the shape of the uterus.

-Noncancerous (benign) tumors in the uterine wall (uterine fibroids) may rarely cause infertility by blocking the fallopian tubes. More often, fibroids interfere with implantation of the fertilized egg.

-Fallopian tube damage or blockage, often caused by inflammation of the fallopian tube (salpingitis).

-Primary ovarian insufficiency (early menopause), when the ovaries stop working and menstruation ends before age 40.

-Pelvic adhesions, bands of scar tissue that bind organs after pelvic infection, appendicitis, or abdominal or pelvic surgery.

I believe, whenever any couple after trying for a year is not able to conceive should consult a gynaecologist and undergo investigations. Through investigations you will come to know about the root cause and that can be treated, which will help eventually in conceiving naturally.

Infertility is basically a social trauma rather than physical. Especially in a country, where social aspects plays a major role. So couple after some years go in a psychological trauma which is due to Social pressure. Such couples needs to be counselled and therapy should be started.

Even homeopathic medicines helps in many of the infertility case esp in cases of psychological, pcod, or hormonal disturbances, sperm quality.

These days life style is also a major issue in infertility. Aeging, Late night parties, junk food, stress, family issues, improper diet, lack of exercise, obesity, work pressure, surrounding impurity plays a major role.

Investigations like blood test, hormonal test, hsg, 3D sonography, semen analysis has to be done.

There are different methods for those who are not able to conceive for long time and should opt for it.

Yoga helps a lot. There are different asanas for different conditions. Meditation also gives benefits.

Diet plays a major role and there are many vegetables, fruits, seeds like pumpkin seeds which help in conceiving.

Medical treatments like hormonal medicines, IUI, IVF is also helpful.
